About the Sleep Sense™ Method

The Sleep Sense™ method was created out of the strong belief that healthy sleep habits make for healthy children. A well-rested child is curious, energetic, happy, playful and eager to learn.

After I went through this programme myself with our daughter, I trained directly under the programme’s founder, Dana Obleman, who developed the programme in the early 2000’s and has helped tens of thousands of mum and dads with their children’s sleeping.

The method revolves around three key parts:

1. Educating parents on how important good sleeping habits are for your child. There has been a lot of recent progress on the study of sleep, which has shown just how important it is for everyone to sleep well on a consistent basis. This is even truer when talking about young ones who are growing and changing at a rapid rate.

2. Creating a step-by-step plan. While theory and principles are important, they don’t actually show you what to do. And that’s what parents need, an easy to follow guide on how to handle their unique baby’s sleep. From the how’s and when’s to the do’s and don’ts, a customised Sleep Sense™ plan covers it all.

3. Establishing expectations. Knowing what to expect as you progress in the plan is incredibly important. It ensures that you know if the plan is working and helps you maintain patience and focus even when things might take some time to get straightened out. Of course, sometimes a baby’s sleeping habits transform overnight, but it’s important to stay grounded in realistic expectations for what is most likely to happen and when.

The Sleep Sense™ method places so much emphasis on accommodating different parenting styles, and the bottom line is that you, as a parent, need to be comfortable with your new sleep plan in order for it to work for your child.

When parents ask for help with their child’s sleep problems they are placing a great deal of trust in me and I want you to know that I take this responsibility very seriously.

so…what about the tears?

One of the most common questions I get about my work is one of the most widely discussed issues in the sleep consulting world: the matter of “crying it out.”

Some parents struggle with letting their children cry, which is a completely natural inclination. It’s in your nature to protect them, and I would never ask you to ignore that or adopt a careless attitude toward your baby’s emotions.

That said, baby’s cry to protest change, and if you’re reading this, change is probably what they need. Nevertheless, with the Sleep Sense™ method, we can develop a plan that takes all of your concerns into consideration to ensure that we have a plan that you are completely comfortable with.

After all, you know your child best, and it’s not my goal to try to change your relationship with them. My goal is always to help improve parents’ relationships with their children by showing them how to encourage healthy, long-term behavior in their little ones’ sleep habits.

A Hands-On, Personalised Approach

While the Sleep Sense™ programme is clearly designed to create custom plans for children and parents, I believe that it’s equally important for me to do the same, making myself available as much as I can for the parents I work with. That’s why I include at least two weeks of follow-up support with every package I offer, and why I provide a number of options for longer term follow up support.

My greatest joy in being a sleep consultant is helping other parents achieve the same amazing, life-changing results that I had. Not only is it important for the immediate well-being of you and your family, but it’s also so crucial to the healthy development of your baby, making it incredibly meaningful work for me.
